Quick answer

The RentLizen Zero-Deposit Model replaces upfront cash bonds and card pre-authorisations with a contractually binding card-on-file agreement. You pay only the rental fee at checkout, and your card is charged later only for agreed rental periods, overdue extensions, or documented loss or damage.

Three things that keep it safe

Stripe tokenisation

Card and Apple Pay details are encrypted and stored by Stripe (PCI-DSS Level 1). RentLizen never stores raw card numbers.

NSW legal backing

Every booking is sealed with an electronic signature and identity record under the Electronic Transactions Act 2000 (NSW).

Fair protection

Charges apply only to unreturned equipment or verifiable damage beyond normal wear and tear.

The legal framework

Fair wear and tear vs damage

Gear is made to be used. We separate normal wear from real damage.

Covered at $0

Normal wear

Minor micro-scratches on a PC chassis, dust build-up and marks that wipe off clean.

Transparent repair cost

Verifiable damage

Cracked optics, liquid spills on motherboards or impact fractures, governed by our public Damage Compensation Schedule.

Frequently asked questions

Why don't you require an upfront security deposit?

Traditional rental companies freeze $1,000 to $3,000 on your card because they lack automated identity verification and modern payment tokenisation. RentLizen validates your ID and digital signature under the NSW Electronic Transactions Act 2000, and securely keeps your card on file via Stripe.

Can RentLizen randomly charge my card on file?

No. Under Australian Consumer Law and our signed rental contract, your card can only be charged for agreed rental periods, overdue extensions, or verifiable loss or damage supported by our public Damage Compensation Schedule.

Can I use a debit card or Apple Pay?

Yes. Visa and Mastercard debit cards and Apple Pay are accepted. Stripe creates a secure token for lawful card-on-file protection.

Where is my signed agreement stored?

A full copy is emailed to you right after checkout and is always available in your RentLizen account dashboard.
